The German was in fine form as he returned to the starting XI for the Blues at Stamford Bridge, forcing an own goal from Ben Godfrey for the opener before winning a penalty converted by Jorginho for the second.
While the 21-year-old did not say he dived to win the penalty, and Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti said he thought it was indeed a penalty, but Havertz said it was very easy to win the spot-kick from the onrushing goalkeeper.
‘I knew probably five metres before that he will come like this and it was only a matter of time to fall down,’ Havertz told the official Chelsea website. ‘That was easy for me to get the penalty and that’s good for us.’
Havertz had his most impressive performance in a Chelsea shirt after a very slow start to his career in west London, thanks partially to form struggles but also suffering with Covid-19.
‘The first few months were not easy for me,’ he said. ‘A performance like this is good for me and I hope I will get a lot of confidence now and I will keep on doing like this.
‘It wasn’t easy for me to come here, everything was new. Seven months ago I came, now it’s time to perform, I know there are many people who have doubts in men and I just keep on going, keep on working, try to help my team in every training session and every game.
‘Hopefully a performance like this will give me confidence and I hope to continue like this.’
‘I don’t know, to be honest it doesn’t matter, it’s a goal, that is what counts,’ he said.
‘Of course it would be nice to have a goal especially because I’ve gone a lot of time without a goal but I don’t care about this, the most important thing is we score, that is what counts.’
Remarkably Chelsea have conceded just two goals in the 11 games under Tuchel so far and Havertz has credited the whole side, not just the defence, for that stunning achievement.
‘I think it’s a team effort, not only the defence, they are doing a great job right now but it’s the whole team, we are strong defensively,’ said the Germany international.
‘I hope we will continue like that, it gives us a lot of confidence to have very many clean sheets, we are happy with it.’
