Kevin Campbell says Arsenal should keep hold of the versatile Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer as he could become an ‘invaluable’ asset to the club.
The 23-year-old is one of the players that could be let go in the Gunners’ summer overhaul ahead of next season.
Wolves have reportedly had an offer of below £20million rejected, with the north London club holding out for a higher fee.
The defender backed up those displays with a man-of-the-match performance in Arsenal’s Community Shield win over Liverpool on Saturday.
Gareth Southgate also made the decision to add Maitland-Niles as a late call-up to his England squad ahead of their upcoming Nations League clashes against Iceland and Denmark.
Arsenal hero Campbell wants the Gunners academy product to stay at the Emirates next season due to his versatility.
‘Maitland-Niles I would keep him definitely because he’s like a box spanner,’ Campbell told Stadium Astro.
‘He can fill in for your right-back, left-back, centre midfield, utility man.
‘Good player, good engine, I think he’s one that he could prove to be invaluable to the football club.’
‘My heart is in the club and while I’m here I’m going to give 100 per cent all the time. So that’s that.’
