Kevin De Bruyne has hailed Bruno Fernandes as a ‘wonderful player’ and believes the midfielder has been key to Manchester United’s improvement.
The Portugal international has hit the ground running since his £47 million move from Sporting in January, with 23 goals and 14 assist in 39 appearances for United.
And De Bruyne has credited Fernandes with giving United momentum and the consistency they lacked during the first half of last season.
‘He’s a wonderful player,’ De Bruyne told Sky Sports.
‘He came in and he gave United a different momentum.
‘They were struggling last year, I know they had some games where they won against good teams but consistency wasn’t there last year for them.
‘That’s much improved this year and Fernandes is a big reason for that.
‘He’s a guy who makes football look fun. We’re pretty similar in a way but I don’t compare myself to other players.
‘I enjoy other players but I never compare.’
‘We need to be careful because everything that has happened this week, it is a good game for them to change the switch,’ said De Bruyne.
‘They will want to show a different side to what happened in Leipzig and we need to be aware of that.
‘In the end it is similar for them as it is for us, both teams want to keep momentum from the last few weeks and it is important to do that.’
