Icelandic teenager Isak Bergmann Johannesson has caught the eye of Liverpool, Manchester United, Juventus and a string of other top clubs, which have all shown an interest in the young midfielder.

The 17-year-old plays for Swedish side IFK Norrkoping, scoring three league goals in the top flight this season.

He made his professional debut for Icelandic outfit IA two years ago, despite only turning 17 in March this year and while he is yet to make his full international debut, he has been capped at all youth levels up to Under-21.

Swedish publication Expressen report that Liverpool have sent scout Mads Jorgensen to watch the promising teenager play against AIK on Monday night. A game that finished 2-2 with Johannesson playing 90 minutes.

The chief scout of Norrkoping, Stig Torbjornsen, is aware of the extensive interest in the youngster, but is unconcerned about the circling giants.

‘It has been a great interest. It’s fun that we have many interesting players but it’s no secret that clubs are chasing Bergmann Johannesson,’ he told Expressen.

‘Norrkoping has quite a lot of money and no need to sell and Isak has a sensible agent and family who know what they want and when he should go. It’s no stress for us, it’s rolling on. When something comes up that is good for all parties, something may happen.

‘Yes (Liverpool are one of the clubs, but) you can name all 10 best clubs in Europe. Everyone has been here for him, they are all curious. Liverpool is a club, there are 10 others as well. It is normal and fun for the association and Isak himself.

‘A club with a lot of money may appear tomorrow or in six months. It is good that Isak is calm and has a good counselor and family. Norrkoping has no stress.’

The 17-year-old has strong links with England as he was born here when his father, Joey Gudjonsson, was playing for Aston Villa in 2003.

Gudjonsson also played for Wolves, Leicester, Burnley and Huddersfield in England, while his father, Gudjon Thordarson, managed Stoke, Barnsley, Notts County and Crewe.
