Andy Robertson has hailed Thiago Alcantara as a ‘fantastic’ player who would add real quality to Liverpool’s team, though he batted away suggestions the midfielder was spotted at Melwood.
The Premier League champions are set to get even stronger this summer after agreeing a deal worth around £25million with Bayern Munich to sign the Spanish midfielder, who only had one year left on his contract and requested to leave.
Bayern have already confirmed the agreement though Liverpool are remaining tight-lipped, with left-back Robertson saying he is a big fan of Thiago but refusing to get carried away just yet.
Asked how it feels to hear Thiago is on the verge of joining, Robertson smiled and told Sky Sports News: ‘Look, when you’re at a club like Liverpool, you get linked with players all the time.
‘For us we focus on our squad. Nobody is in Melwood in terms of Thiago or any other players just now for new signings.
‘Look in terms of that, we focus on until something is signed on the dotted line, then we don’t listen to rumours.’
On Liverpool fans getting excited by the reports, Robertson continued: ‘In terms of us, our aim is to excite fans. We excited fans last season, they believed we might have won the league by Christmas time last season but we didn’t.
‘I’ve watched him, he’s a fantastic player, a player full of talent and he would add to the quality of squad in probably any team in the world.
‘So if we get him, great. If we don’t, then it is what it is. But we wait and see until it’s definitely confirmed and then I can maybe sit down with you again and talk about his qualities a bit more.’
Manager Jurgen Klopp also refused to speak about Thiago, saying: ‘We are not part of speculations, try to never be, and that’s it pretty much. If something is to announce, you are the first I will call.’
