Lucas Torreira is on the verge of leaving Arsenal for Italian side Fiorentina after the Gunners agreed a structured £21.3million deal for the midfielder.
The Uruguayan hit the ground running at the Emierates when he arrived in a £26m deal from Sampdoria in 2018 but his form dipped under Unai Emery and he’s failed to impress Mikel Arteta.
Arteta is keen to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey this summer but the Spaniard has been told he must sell before he can buy again, having already recruited Willian, Gabriel and Pablo Mari this summer.
Torreira has pined for a return to Italy for the last 18 months, having attracted attention from AC Milan in the last year.
Arsenal had hoped to recoup the full £26m they paid for the midfielder but they have agreed to loan him to Fiorentina for a fee of £7.1m and the deal will include an option to buy for £14.2m in a year’s time.
Arsenal were able to sanction the deal after coming to an agreement with Real Madrid for Dani Ceballos.
The midfielder is set to spend a second season on loan at the Emirates, seeing off competition from Real Betis in the process.
The Ghanian is keen on a move to north London and has resisted Atletico’s attempts for him to sign a new deal, which would remove the release clause.
Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendouzi, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Sokratis and Hector Bellerin are also up for sale, in what promises to be a summer of change in the red half of north London.
