Fiorentina defender and Manchester United target Nikola Milenkovic has picked out Red Devils legend Nemanja Vidic as his boyhood hero, fuelling rumours of a switch to Old Trafford.
The commanding centre-back has been a fixture in the Fiorentina side over the last three seasons and has racked up over 100 Serie A appearances at just 23-years-old.
The 6’5″ defender has also become a regular in the Serbia national side, winning 26 caps and being a standout performer in their 2018 World Cup campaign.
As a fellow Serbian and centre-back it is little surprise that Milenkovic grew up idolising Vidic, who starred for his country from 2002-11 and became an icon at Manchester United, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League.
The Fiorentina star not only grew up as a big fan of Vidic, but still watches his best performances to this day.
‘When I was little, Serbian defender Vidic, who played for Manchester United, was my idol,’ Milenkovic told his club’s official website.
‘He was a very strong defender: I still watch the videos of his highlights today.’
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for an upgrade on Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly as he searches for a long-term partner for captain Harry Maguire.
Raphael Varane is at the top of the wanted list, although the Real Madrid star would be very difficult to get hold of, while the likes of Pau Torres, Ben White and Milenkovic would be much more achievable.
