The 29-year-old informed the Bundesliga giants before the end of the season that he would not be signing a new deal at the Allianz Arena and that he wanted a new challenge in the final years of his career.
The midfielder has one year to run on his deal in Munich and he’s held talks with Jurgen Klopp over a move to Anfield.
However, Liverpool are reluctant to meet Bayern’s £27million asking price and the German giants insisted last night that they expect bids for the midfielder this week, suggesting that Liverpool are not the only club interested in the former Barcelona man.
According to Norwegian reporter Fredrik A. N. Filtvedt, United have entered the race for Thiago and hope to sign him from under the nose of rivals Liverpool.
United had been close to signing Thiago in 2013 before his move to Bayern but David Moyes wasn’t set on the midfielder and told his board to drop their agreement.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on signing at least one midfielder this summer and having been put off Jack Grealish by Aston Villa’s £75m asking price, United have identified Ajax’s Donny van de Beek as an alternative.
However, Solskjaer is keen on a deep-lying midfielder having switched between Nemanja Matic and Fred throughout the previous campaign.
Thiago, though not particularly defensive-minded, is one of the best deep-lying midfielders in Europe and close friend David De Gea would love to see him join the club.
