Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made Borussia Dortmund and England star Sancho his top target for this summer but the Red Devils have been unable to agree a fee for the 20-year-old.
Dortmund have repeatedly maintained that Sancho will remain in Germany, while United are reluctant to pay the £110million that may tempt the Bundesliga club to strike a deal.
With the summer transfer window set to close next week – and Solskjaer still keen to strengthen the right-wing position – Manchester United have made an enquiry for Senegal international Sarr, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Sarr has impressed at Watford since his £25m movel from Rennes last year but was unable to save the club from relegation.
Watford, now playing in the Championship, are braced for approaches for Sarr but will only agree to a permanent deal for a player they value at £40m.
Manchester United beat Brighton on Saturday but there have still been concerns over the squad’s quality and depth after a slow start to the 2020-21 campaign.
Last week, Solskjaer admitted he was open to bolstering his squad before the summer window closed.
