Manchester United will reportedly get to work on cutting deadwood from their squad in the January transfer window and are ready to listen to offers for Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones.
Romero earned a reputation as a dependable understudy to David de Gea in recent years but the 33-year-old Argentine has dropped down the pecking order following Dean Henderson’s return from Sheffield United and has not featured this season.
Fellow countryman, Rojo, 30, is also yet to make an appearance this term and last played for United over a year ago as an 89th-minute substitute in the side’s 3-1 victory at home to Brighton.
It’s been a similar story for Jones since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins from Jose Mourinho and the England international looks set for the exit door at Old Trafford after nearly a decade of service.
According to Manchester Evening News, all three have been identified as players the Red Devils could offload this winter, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah also strongly considering his future in the north west.
Both Romero and Rojo are out of contract at United next summer, while Jones is tied into a deal at the Theatre of Dreams until 2023.
The injury-prone centre-back has made just seven Premier League starts since putting pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year contract back in February 2019.
Romero’s wife hit out at the Red Devils in an explosive Instagram post last month after the shot-stopper was denied a deadline day exit.
Everton were keen on securing a loan agreement for the Argentina international but United were only willing to let him go permanently and talks of a deal broke down.
‘Sergio Romero worked hard for his club,’ a furious Eliana Guercio posted on Instagram.
‘Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him.
‘It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!!’
