Manchester United defender Alex Telles has tested positive for Covid-19, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

The Brazilian has made just one appearance for the club since signing in a £13million deal from Porto this summer and his absence from Wednesday’s squad to play RB Leipzig left supporters worried that he had sustained an injury.

However, Solskjaer confirmed to MUTV after his side’s 5-0 victory against the Bundesliga side that Telles has tested positive for coronavirus and will need to self-isolate for a period of two weeks and until he returns a negative result.

‘Telles has tested positive for coronavirus, he’s been out for a few days,’ said Solskjaer.

‘No symptoms, he’ll be fine, back soon’.

It’s unclear when Telles’ isolation began but it’s unlikely that he will be able to return to the side until after the international break, meaning he’ll miss fixtures against Arsenal, Istanbul Basaksehir and Everton.

Telles’ absence meant Luke Shaw continued at left-back and United kept their second clean sheet of the season in an impressive win against Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Shaw will therefore keep his place as United take on Arsenal at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday.

Goals from Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and a Marcus Rashford hat-trick kept up United’s 100% start to their Champions League campaign.
