According to The Sun, United’s coaches have been impressed with Van de Beek’s core fitness since his arrival at Old Trafford.
But United are keen for the midfielder to add muscle and will give him a tailored training programme to follow.
United have followed the same pattern with several players who have arrived from teams outside of the Premier League, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.
The report also claims that Jesse Lingard followed a strength training programme during lockdown and added 3lb of muscle.
Van de Beek is now pushing to secure his first Premier League start on Saturday as United face Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
And the 23-year-old would have impressed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his display for Netherlands on Wednesday evening as he scored in the 1-1 draw with Italy.
Alex Telles, who joined from Porto on deadline day, could be handed his first appearance, while 18-year-old winger Facundo Pellistri, who was signed from Penarol, has begun training with the first team.
