Marko Grujic has claimed that Adrian’s career at Liverpool has been ‘ended’ following the 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa.

Adrian deputised for Allison at Villa Park last Sunday as the Brazilian goalkeeper missed the match due to a shoulder injury.

But Adrian’s game got off to the worst possible start as his early error allowed Ollie Watkins to open the scoring for Villa.

Villa’s £33 million summer signing went on to complete his hat-trick, while the result was the heaviest defeat of Jurgen Klopp’s managerial career.

Klopp refused to blame Adrian following his mistake but Grujic, who joined Porto on loan earlier this week, had no hesitation in criticising the Spaniard’s performance.

In a response to a post about Watkins on Instagram, Grujic replied: ‘The first couple of games the man is nowhere to be found, I impatiently decided to move him [out of my team] in Fantasy [League]…. the rest is history.’

Grujic then followed up with: ‘Probably also ended Adrian’s career at LFC’.

On Thursday, Liverpool signed Marcelo Pitaluga, a 17-year-old goalkeeper from Brazil.

But Klopp has been urged by former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson to sign Jack Butland as a back-up to Alisson.

‘If Alisson is going to be out for that length of time Liverpool are going to have to look at it,’ Robinson told Football Insider.

‘While the domestic window is still open we may see Liverpool do some business. There is a lot of good goalkeepers that are not playing football right now.

‘I can see Liverpool signing the likes of Jack Butland on a short-term deal. They need somebody like that.

‘A player that has the experience of handling big games. Somebody of that ilk.’
