Michael Owen is expecting Liverpool to edge a win over Arsenal in a five-goal thriller at Anfield, and backs Manchester United and Chelsea both to pick up victories in Matchday 3.
Monday night’s blockbuster fixtures will be a repeat of the Community Shield, in which the Gunners beat the Reds on penalties in August.
Mikel Arteta’s side go into the game off the back of two wins in the Premier League, comfortably beating Fulham 3-0 on the opening day, and narrowly getting the better of West Ham last weekend.
Champions Liverpool also have a 100 per cent record so far, having beaten Leeds United and Chelsea.
Ex-Reds striker Owen says the clash at Anfield will be a goal-fest and backs his former side to take all three points.
‘Both teams have shown a vulnerability in defence so far this season and I see that trend continuing on Monday night,’ he told BetVictor.
‘Historically, fixtures between these two sides have resulted in goals aplenty and I don’t see that changing this time around.
‘I’m going for a memorable game, full of attacking threat, and a 3-2 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men.’
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side face a tricky test away at Brighton and Owen believes the Red Devils will come away with a ‘closely fought’ 1-0 win.
Frank Lampard’s Chelsea were also defeated last time out, slipping to a 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
They play newly-promoted West Bromich Albion, who have conceded eight goals in their first two games back in the Premier League.
Owen expects the Blues to pile the misery on Slaven Bilic’s side with a 3-0 win at the Hawthorns.
