Arsenal are set to complete the £27million transfer of centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes next week, but Mikel Arteta still wants to add to his squad this summer.
He will put pen to paper on a five-year deal when he flies into London on Monday and Arsenal fans will hope he – and William Saliba, who has returned to the Emirates after a loan spell with Saint-Etienne – will help provide some solidity at the back.
Gabriel is the second signing of the summer after Willian joined from Chelsea but is unlikely to be the last.
According to The Guardian, Arteta still wants to add a midfielder and a forward to his Arsenal squad.
And he wants to extend Dani Ceballos’ stay, hoping to secure at least an extra year’s loan from Real Madrid.
While Arteta will continue to recruit, he knows he needs to get players out of the door.
The Arsenal squad is now bursting with centre-backs, with Saliba and Gabriel joined by David Luiz, Pablo Mari, Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Along with adding a forward, a midfielder and Ceballos, Arteta is also confident Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will extend his contract.
