Mikel criticises Sanchez and Jackson after Chelsea’s loss to City

In the aftermath of Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, former Blues midfielder, John Obi Mikel has voiced strong criticisms of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and striker Nicolas Jackson, asserting that neither player meets the club’s standards for Premier League success.

Speaking on his “Obi One” podcast, Mikel, who enjoyed an 11-year tenure at Stamford Bridge, winning multiple titles including two Premier League championships and a Champions League, did not mince words regarding Sanchez’s performance.

He highlighted a specific incident where Sanchez was caught off his line, leading to a goal by Erling Haaland. Mikel stated, “No, he’s not. He’s not a top, top keeper… He’s not that goalkeeper.”

Mikel also expressed concerns about Jackson’s effectiveness as a leading striker, suggesting that while both players might secure a top-four finish, they are insufficient for clinching the league title.

He emphasized the necessity for Chelsea to invest in higher-caliber talent in the goalkeeping and striking department to reclaim their position at the pinnacle of English football.

These remarks echo Mikel’s earlier critiques from August, following a 2-0 loss to Manchester City, where he similarly questioned Jackson’s finishing abilities.
