Nigerian born Moses Itauma stops Franklin with fifth-round knockout

Moses Itauma produced a clinical display to stop Jermaine Franklin in the fifth round, handing the American his first stoppage defeat.

The 21-year-old controlled the fight from early on, using his movement and shot selection to keep Franklin on the back foot. He created the first major moment in the third round, dropping Franklin and shifting the momentum clearly in his favour.

Franklin, who had previously gone the distance with Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, showed resilience to continue, but he struggled to deal with Itauma’s pace and accuracy.

The finish came in the fifth round. Itauma timed his attack well, landing a clean uppercut that sent Franklin to the canvas. The referee stepped in immediately, ending the contest.

The result extends Itauma’s unbeaten run and adds weight to his growing reputation in the heavyweight division. More importantly, it answers questions about how he would handle a durable and experienced opponent.

For Franklin, it is a setback. For Itauma, it is another step forward—and this one will get people talking.
