The new Amazon Prime Video series All or Nothing charts Spurs’ eventful 2019/20 season, which saw Mourinho replace Mauricio Pochettino after a disastrous start to the campaign under the Argentine.
When Mourinho took charge, Tottenham were closer to the relegation places than the top of the table – 10 points adrift of the Champions League spots – though enjoyed an initial bump in performances.
Under his watch, Spurs cut the gap to fourth-placed Chelsea to just three points heading into their clash in north London, where a win would have seen Tottenham leapfrog their rivals on goal difference.
Several games prior to that meeting, Mourinho had targeted the match as a defining point in the season and felt Spurs could really put the pressure on Chelsea and cause their season to unravel.
‘We win tomorrow, Chelsea lose in Manchester City, they s**t themselves,’ Mourinho told his players at a team meeting.
Unfortunately for Mourinho, however, it was Spurs who came up short when the two sides met in December of last year, with a brace from Willian securing a 2-0 win and Son Heung-min being shown a red card.
That three-point gap would be the closest Spurs ever came to the top four last season, with their campaign derailed by a horde of injuries, while Chelsea clung on to fourth place and will be playing Champions League football next season.
