Nigeria ended their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group D qualifiers with a 2-1 loss to Rwanda on Monday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The hosts took the lead through an incredible solo goal by Samuel Chukwueze inthe 59th minute, much to the delight of the home crowd.
Rwanda, however, drew level in the 72nd minute through Ange Mutsinzi and then Innocent Nshuti scored just three minutes later to seal three points for the visitors.
In a post on the official Instagram of the Super Eagles, it said;
“We are disappointed to have ended our great run in the Afcon 2025 qualifiers with a home loss. We will bounce back. Thank you for all your support through the qualifiers and see you in Morocco.”
Despite the defeat, Nigeria topped Group D with 11 points. Benin and Rwanda both finished with 8 points, but Benin secured second place on goal difference to join Nigeria in qualifying for the tournament.
