Daniel Podence missed Wolves’ defeat to West Ham through injury, according to Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 24-year-old impressed in Wolves’ defeat to Manchester City last Monday and was expected to keep his place in attack for his side’s trip to the London Stadium.

But Podence was unable to make the bench as Wolves suffered a 4-0 defeat to West Ham.

‘He was not able to recover,’ Nuno Espirito Santo said when asked about Podence’s absence.

‘He had a knock against City, fell down on the ground. Hopefully it’s not serious.’

Podence is now aiming to be fit for Wolves’ Premier League clash against Fulham on Sunday.

Nuno Espirito Santo, meanwhile, was unhappy with his side’s defensive display as West Ham secured their first Premier League win of the new season.

‘We played very, very bad. We made mistakes, we didn’t play good and West Ham were better than us. Since the beginning, we were defensively very bad,’ said the Wolves boss.

‘It was numerous factors. Lack of concentration, anxiety and mistakes. No organisation, something we have to look at and improve. We were not able to break them and in the second-half, very bad.

‘It was very bad, we defended very bad. We were not organised, winning duels. Antonio caused us numerous problems.

‘Each time they went for an attack, it was a chance on goal.

‘We were not playing fast enough and defensively we made mistakes that they punished.’
