Manchester United have confirmed their squad for the Champions League group stages and have left out Sergio Romero, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has picked his 25-man squad for group stage clashes with Paris Saint-Germain, Red Bull Leipzig and İstanbul Başakşehir, ditching the trio in the process.

There are spots for new signings Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo pellestri – all of whom arrived on transfer deadline day.

Mason Greenwood is not part of the squad but he can play as part of the B list – which is made up of homegrown players under the age of 21.

Romero was snubbed in favour of fellow goalkeepers Lee Grant, Dean Henderson and David de Gea.

United are well stocked in the centre-back department, too.

Manchester United Champions League squad

GKs: De Gea, Grant, Henderson
Defs: Lindelof, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw, Fosu-Mensah, Telles, Wan-Bissaka, Tuanzebe
Mids: Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Fred, Fernandes, James, Pellistri, Matic, Van de Beek, McTominay
Atts: Cavani, Martial, Rashford, Ighalo

Jones and Rojo failed to get in ahead of the likes of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe, while Luke Shaw has also played on the left-hand side of a back-three.

Romero was looking to seal a summer exit, with Everton thought to be interested, and his wife was furious that it didn’t get over the line.

‘Sergio Romero worked hard for this club,’ wrote Eliana Guercio on Instagram.

‘Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him.

‘He helped the team reach 4 finals/ semifinals and then he was left on the bench only to lose them all.

‘It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go.

‘RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!!’
