The Red Devils take on the Gunners at Old Trafford today and the Norwegian will be hoping to win all three points on his 100th game in charge of the club.
United have played different formations in all four of their last matches but they found major success with a 4-1-2-1-2 shape against RB Leipzig in midweek, which helped the side to a 5-0 win against the Germans.
The system allowed Paul Pogba to play in a more advanced role, while keeping two players nearer the base of midfield and a traditional No.10 at the tip.
Though Donny van de Beek has made way for Bruno Fernandes today, the Frenchman starts alongside Scott McTominay and Fred.
Though United have the players in the side to play a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2, Solskjaer has appeared to confirm it’s a diamond in midfield.
Asked about the success of the system in midweek and whether it will be applied today, Solskjaer said: ‘You’ll have to wait and see [laughs],’ said Solskjaer.
‘Of course we’ve got players that can rotate but it’s always nice to have centre forwards playing and to have more of them. We’ve got goals in there and it worked against Leipzig. That work rate defensively was the key though, when we defend well we know we’re going to get chances.
‘Every game lives its own life and you have to lay the foundation with your work. The first hour in the game against Leipzig laid the foundation for a fantastic result in the end’.
Daniel James has been omitted completely, while Van De Beek drops to the bench.
Edinson Cavani will be hoping to feature as the Uruguayan slowly builds up his fitness.
