Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken to Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho to assure him that a move to Old Trafford this summer is close and that he will become a Manchester United player in the coming weeks.

United’s negotiations with Dortmund have been slow and their hopes of a quick deal were shattered last month when the Red Devils failed to meet the Germans’ £108m asking price by a deadline of August 10th.

However, United considered Dortmund’s deadline to be arbitrary, believing instead that they could sign the 20-year-old for a reduced price by allowing the clock to run down in the transfer window.

United made a breakthrough with Sancho’s representatives last week over personal terms for both the player and the agency themselves, meaning a fee is the only obstacle left in the club’s goal of signing the former Manchester City winger.

Solskjaer has remained in contact with Sancho throughout the summer but Norwegian outlet Dagbladet – who broke news about Donny van de Beek’s move to Manchester United – say the United boss recently spoke with the winger to assure him that a deal to Old Trafford is close.

It’s claimed Solskjaer told Sancho that he thinks a deal will soon be concluded, despite ‘difficult negotiations’ ahead.

The window shuts on October 5th and United are desperately trying to sell some deadwood, perhaps with a view to bolstering their budget to fund a move for Sancho.

The likes of Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard are all surplus to requirements but United have found finding a buyer difficult in a depleted market.

With the club failing to bolster their budget so far, United had considered alternative options to Sancho.

Gareth Bale, 31, was offered to United but the Welshman looks set to return to Tottenham on loan, while Juventus winger Douglas Costa is also available.

However, Sancho is considered a generational talent and United hope to make him their new no.7 by the end of the window.
