Former Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is backing Ademola Lookman to win the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
Lookman, who plays for Serie A club Atalanta, is one of 10 nominees for the prestigious award.
The 27-year-old was also Africa’s sole representative in the 2024 Ballon d’Or, finishing 14th.
Onazi believes Lookman is the clear favourite to succeed Victor Osimhen as Africa’s best player.
“Lookman is an exceptional talent,” he said.
“His hard work, commitment, and discipline set him apart.”
“I am thrilled with his achievements and his nomination for the Ballon d’Or, which is a testament to his quality,” Onazi added.
“CAF should prepare the trophy for him; it’s not just about him being Nigerian, but because he truly is the finest player in Africa right now.”
Lookman’s impressive performance last season has earned him widespread recognition. He was inspirational in leading Nigeria to the final of AFCON 2023 and capped off the season with a brilliant hat-trick to lead Atalanta to Europa League glory.
“His performance last season was phenomenal, and he deserves every recognition he gets,” Onazi concluded, in an interview with Brila FM.
