Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel has heaped praise on new Manchester United signing Edinson Cavani, insisting he is still one of the best strikers in world football.
The 33-year-old’s contract at PSG expired in June and he left the club as their all-time top goalscorer with 200 goals in 301 games.
United take on the French giants in their first Champions League group game on Tuesday night, but Cavani and captain Harry Maguire will play no part, as they have not been included in the travelling squad for the match at Parc des Princes.
The Uruguay international striker had to undergo a two-week quarantine period following his deadline-day move and only started first-team training on Sunday.
Cavani will bring plenty of experience to the dressing room and provide competition for Anthony Martial up front.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday night’s big European clash, Tuchel was full of praise for his former striker.
‘Very polite, almost a bit shy,’ Tuchel said. ‘Hard, hard worker, he will be there in every training [session] first minute until last minute. Every game from first second until last second. You can totally rely on him.
‘When he has the confidence he’s one of the [best] No.9s in world football.
‘From Wednesday on he can start to convince all of you, but tomorrow, it’s not necessary to prove me right.’
