United’s slow start to the campaign continued with their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently languishing in 15th place in the table having only picked up two wins and a draw so far.
Red Devils legend Ince pointed towards his former side’s inconsistency as the root of their problems, but is still expecting them to finish in the top six come the end of the season.
‘I still think United finish in the top six this season,’ Ince told Ladbrokes.
‘It’s that inconsistency that’s the problem. You look at the way they played against PSG and you think they should absolutely be in the top four.
‘But you look at how they played against Arsenal and think they’d be lucky to finish in the top six.
‘That’s the way it is at Manchester United at the minute.
‘A lot of things aren’t clicking at this moment in time but there’s still a long way to go this season and I think United can expect to be right up there at the end of the campaign.’
Solskjaer’s side have a chance to make it three wins from three when they travel to Turkey to take on Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday evening.
