That’s the view of former United defender Phil Neville, who believes the Frenchman has played some of his best football for the club since Mino Raiola revealed he wanted to leave Old Trafford.
Pogba has 18 months to run on his deal at the Theatre of Dreams and Raiola angered club officials by claiming Pogba was ‘unhappy’ and should be sold in January on the eve of the club’s Champions League exit in early December.
The France international nearly swung the Leipzig defeat in United’s favour after he came on from the bench and his form since has been fantastic.
United’s 1-0 win against Wolves on Tuesday ensures the club finish the year in second place behind rivals Liverpool and Neville believes Pogba’s form could inspire United to their first league title in eight years.
‘I have got to say I prefer watching Manchester United when he is playing because he gives them something that might take them on the way to the title. He is a world-class player.
‘It’s the impact he’s had on the club. Forget the goals and assists, it’s the winning mentality, every time he goes on the field he wants to win, he drives the team forward.
‘He is absolutely outstanding. He pops up everywhere on the field.’
It remains unclear what the club’s position is on the midfielder’s future but negotiations are yet to begin over an extension to his current deal, which expires in 2022.
United face the prospect of losing Pogba, their most expensive signing of all-time, on a free transfer if they do not agree to sell him next summer.
