Red Bull Salzburg’s sporting director expects in-demand midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to join a ‘big club’ next year amid interest from Arsenal – though they are not the only north London club interested.
The Hungarian is regarding as one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders and already has five goals and nine assists in 14 matches for his club this season, as well as starring for his nation in the recent international break.
Szoboszlai has a £23million release clause which Arsenal are considering paying, though Bild report that Tottenham are also eyeing the 20-year-old while RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich are also potential destinations.
Salzburg chief Christoph Freund expects the midfielder to leave Austria, either in January or next summer, and believes he is ready to make a step up to a higher level.
‘Of course you would like to have the player in the club as long as possible,’ he told Sky Sport Austria.
‘On the other hand, it is also healthy if he takes the next step at the right time.
‘That is definitely a next step in development so that he can tap this potential and this performance with every game.
‘I’m convinced that he can become one of the most interesting midfielders in Europe in the next few years.’
While Szoboszlai – who has been likened to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne – has his admirers in north London, his most likely destination is the Bundesliga with reports in Germany suggesting he could join Leipzig before making a move to Bayern Munich a year or two later.
