Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance moved up to fifth after a 1-1 home draw with Nasarawa United, while Heartland’s battle for survival took a hit as they were held to a goalless draw by visiting Kwara United, keeping them stuck in the relegation zone.
Plateau United deepened Akwa United’s relegation troubles with a 1-0 win in Jos, and Niger Tornadoes were held 1-1 by Bayelsa United in a closely contested encounter.
Elsewhere, Ikorodu City continued their impressive run by climbing into third place after earning a valuable 1-1 draw on the road against El Kanemi Warriors. They now have 53 points with only four matches remaining in the season.
