Samson Sia Sia has adviced Austin Eguavoen to resign as interim coach of the Super Eagles and focus on his role as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Sia Sia, a two-time former coach of the Super Eagles believes it’s not wise for his former teammate and boss to hold both positions at the same time.
Samson Sia Sia served as an coach to Austin Eguavoen at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The former Super Eagles defender expressed his thoughts during a football friendly match held in honor of the newly-appointed Nigeria Sports Commission Chairman, Shehu Dikko, according to The Sun online newspaper.
“As for Austin Eguavoen’s future with the Super Eagles, I will suggest that we wait a while to see how the team will be. It is a very young team. Eguavoen has a job already as the technical director. He should resign as Super Eagles manager and concentrate on his job. He cannot hold two positions at the same time. He should actually decide on which one to hold and leave the other,”
Samson Sia Sia also added that the Super Eagles doesn’t need a foreign coach because the country has capable hands.
“We don’t want any foreign coach here becauset hey are not coming to do anything. We have enoughg ood materials at home that we should not be talkinga bout hiring a foreign coach”, he concluded.”
However, In a related development, the Nigeria Football Federation have announced that the body is set to announce a new coach in January, 2025 ahead of the resumption of the FIFA World Cup qualification series in March.
The Super Eagles find themselves in a tight corner in Group C with 3 points after four matches.
