Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand described Hugo Lloris’ mistake in an FA Cup defeat to Everton as ‘an embarrassment’ as Tottenham were sent crashing out of the competition.

Spurs took the lead in just the third minute at Goodison Park when Davinson Sanchez found the bottom corner with a headed effort from a corner and Jose Mourinho’s side created plenty of chances to build on their advantage.

However, Everton levelled through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who found the back of the net when he struck an effort past Lloris.

The Frenchman got two hands on the striker’s powerful effort but replays showed he should have done better to parry it away from danger.

Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson scored before the break to give Everton a 3-1 lead at half-time but Spurs fought their way back into the match through goals from Lamela and Harry Kane.

However, Lloris was once again culpable as Richarlison and Bernard found a way past the France captain in the latter stages.

But it was Lloris’ earlier mistake against Calvert-Lewin that infuriated Ferdinand, who described the Frenchman’s handling as ’embarrassing’.

‘It’s embarrassing. That is an embarrassment,’ Ferdinand told BT Sport.

‘He fell back almost into his goals. His arms are like a powder puff effort there. Weak.

‘He’ll be disappointed i’m sure as well as the Spurs fans and players.’
