Robert Lewandowski has congratulated Thiago Alcantara ahead of his impending transfer to Liverpool and hailed his soon-to-be former team-mate as a magician.
Thiago has spent the last seven years at Bayern, six of those alongside Lewandowski, and played a pivotal role in their continued domination of the Bundesliga.
His eye for a pass has also contributed to helping Polish goal machine Lewandowski cement his reputation as one of the most prolific strikers in world football and the 32-year-old paid tribute to his long-time colleague with a message of his own on social media.
He wrote on Twitter: It was a pleasure to play with such a magician like you, Gracias Amigo.’
Bayern begin their season, minus Thiago, against Schalke this evening and treble-winning coach Hansi Flick admitted the departure of such a skilled technician will be difficult to cope with.
‘Thiago is an exceptional player who spent seven hugely successful years here,’ he said.
‘He’s a wonderful person and an outstanding professional. It was very emotional today when he said goodbye to us all.
‘My coaching team and I enjoyed working with him. I can only congratulate Liverpool as they got a great player and especially a great person.’
