Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that he never got a call from Manchester City before he joined their rivals lat month.
The 39-year-old manager said Manchester United were the only option and he acted decisively when the call came.
Rumours had already linked the former Sporting Lisbon coach as Pep Guardiola’s potential successor due to the similarities in the style of both managers as well his successes at Sporting Lisbon.
However, Amorim cleared the air in a press conference ahead of the Manchester Derby this Sunday at the Etihad.
“Never. Never heard from them and Man United was my only option”.
“When Man Utd talked to me I had no doubts. I had already something in my mind that could be a possibility”.
Ruben Amorim joined Manchester United as Erik Ten Hag’s replacement after the October international break.
The Dutch manager’s three-ye ar reign at the club came to an end after a controversial 2-1 loss to Westham at the London Stadium in October.
Amorim has managed six games so far with three wins, two losses and a draw.
The Portuguese manager will look to win his first Manchester Derby this Sunday against a Pep Guardiola’s side that have won just one game in its last 10 matches.
