Ryan Giggs has backed ‘world star’ Edinson Cavani to thrive at Manchester United – but insists the striker will need to hit the ground running.
Former PSG striker Cavani is set to fly into England on Sunday to join Premier League giants United on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old, who left PSG in June, is expected to sign a two-year contract at Old Trafford.
Cavani boasted a staggering record for PSG – scoring 200 goals in 301 matches – and Giggs expects him to be a success at Manchester United.
Giggs said: ‘It goes without saying he [Cavani] is a world star.
‘My second game [as Wales manager] was against Uruguay and Cavani scored and I was really impressed with his work rate and quality.
‘It’s about how quickly he beds in. We have seen South Americans who haven’t really come and done it like Falcao, Di Maria and Sanchez, but Cavani, with his work rate, you expect him to make it.
‘I think United needed a centre-forward and needed that target man to score the goals and make that difference. Hopefully he can do that.
‘I think Cavani will have no problem with the size of the club. He’s got the experience to handle that.
‘But eyes will be on him straight away and if he does come he’ll have to hit the ground running because the pressure will be on.’
