Sadio Mane has revealed Liverpool’s squad were just as excited as their supporters to see Thiago Alcantara join from Bayern Munich this summer and claims the midfielder has the quality to take the team to ‘another level’.
Jurgen Klopp was keen to add strength to his options in the middle of the park as the Reds look to defend the Premier League title and the German made his interest known once it became clear Thiago was keen for a fresh challenge after winning the Champions League with Bayern.
The 29-year-old Spain international completed a £20m move to Merseyside earlier this month and the early signs have been positive after a superb 45-minute performance in the side’s 2-0 win at Chelsea last weekend.
Klopp will no doubt be tempted to start Thiago on Monday night when the champions face Arsenal at Anfield.
‘I think not only the fans are excited to see Thiago,’ Mane told Liverpool’s official website.
‘For sure, especially me and my teammates were really happy to have this kind of quality in our squad. It only makes us better.
‘I can see from day one in training and the game against Chelsea what he is doing.
‘I’m sure he will take us to another level, for sure.’
Mane has been impressed with Liverpool’s business in the summer transfer window and also has high hopes for Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota, who have joined the club from Olympiacos and Wolves respectively.
‘We’re looking forward to seeing Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota as well, who is a really good signing for us,’ the Senegal forward added.
‘I’m really happy to have him as well.
‘They are good players and they will also take us to another level, which for us is something incredible, and for the fans as well.’
‘We will see, we have a few days to train,’ the Liverpool head coach said.
‘Some of the boys have to recover from last night, so we will see how we set up against Arsenal.
‘I have an idea but why should I make the decision today when we have time until Monday? But he’s in, he’s in contention. So let’s see.’
