In an exclusive interview, Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson opened up about the footballing legends who inspired them on their journeys to becoming top players.
Speaking on Liverpool’s Red Roundtable, Robertson said, ” I think when I was really young probably Henrik Larsson. I think he was the hero in Scotland. But I think as my career started moving on it was quite evident that I wasn’t going to be a goalscorer so I had to shift my inspirations.
“Then it turned to the best in the world in they positions. I loved watching Philipp Lahm, I loved watching Ashley Cole. The full-back position kind of changed a bit but I just loved the way they kind of played. Roberto Carlos.
“They still attacked as well as defending and I always believed that was kind of the best way to do it I came across Roberto Carlos strangely enough when we played Real Madrid. He followed me on Instagram which was a highlight.”
Salah on his own part said, “I love the way the Brazilian Ronaldo was playing, and Zidane and Totti.
“These guys, I look at them and they just enjoy the game.
“Also, Cristiano Ronaldo was the one when I started playing in Europe. The way he dedicated himself to the game was insane.” Salah played with Totti during his two-year stint at Roma and was full of praise for the Italian legend.
“I had an opportunity to play with Totti for two years in Rome, and he was an incredible footballer and great person.”
The two players have been influential for Liverpool this season as they stay top of the Premier League table going into the international break.
