San Diego Wave FC has announced the signing of 19-year-old Nigerian forward Chiamaka Okwuchukwu from Rivers Angels FC. Okwuchukwu has agreed to a one-year contract extending through the 2025 season.
Okwuchukwu has represented Nigeria at the U-20 level, participating in the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, where she played in all four matches, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
She also competed in the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, contributing to Nigeria’s undefeated group stage performance and advancement to the quarterfinals.
San Diego Wave FC’s Sporting Director and General Manager, Camille Ashton, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We are very pleased to welcome Chiamaka to the Wave family. Her signing is the latest example of our intention to add promising young players to the roster. With her skillset, we believe Chiamaka will complement our current attacking players very well and be a key contributor to the team.”
Okwuchukwu will join the Wave’s roster pending a medical examination and receipt of her International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa. She will occupy an international slot on the team’s 2025 roster.
