The 27-year-old has long been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but after working his way back into the United team after returning from injury in the latter stages of last season, he seemed to have finally turned a corner.
Reports last month claimed that the Red Devils were even ready to hand Pogba a bumper new contract to keep him at the club until 2024.
However, in a press conference on Thursday while on international duty for France, the midfielder admitted it is a dream of his to play at the Bernabeu and opened the door to an eventual move there.
‘Of course, every footballer would love to play for Real Madrid and would dream about that,’ he said. ‘It’s a dream of mine, so why not one day?’
Nicol can’t believe Pogba even answered the question about Madrid and admitted he possesses ‘zero’ leadership skills.
‘I don’t understand why players are so stupid, because somebody asks you a question you don’t have to answer it,’ Nicol told ESPN FC.
‘If you’re going to answer it all you say is, “I’m doing my very best at Manchester United and that’s the only thing I’m thinking about”, and that’s the end of the story.
‘But it’s really, really clear, this guy has absolutely zero leadership in him. You can tell because at Juventus, amongst great players he was great, and when he’s in France [national team], he’s great.
‘But when he’s at United amongst players that need some guidance and leadership, he can’t do it because he’s only interested in doing his thing, and if his thing’s not working, then he’s contributing nothing.
‘I think he’s shown his true colours, he isn’t changing now. If I’m Real Madrid, unless I’m going to go back to the Galacticos, then you don’t want Paul Pogba, because he’s not going to help you.’
