Several Nigerian Super Eagles stars were able to find the back of the net in Europe for their respective clubs.
Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman and Alexander Iwobi were three players invited for the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers that found the back of the net.
Ademola Lookman scores for Atalanta
Lookman, who is now the clear favorite to win the 2024 CAF Player of the Year title, put on a brilliant display during Atalanta’s decisive 6-1 victory over Verona.
His outstanding move down the left wing in the sixth minute set up Marten de Roon’s first goal, and he again provided up Charles De Ketelaere’s incredible goal in the fourteenth minute.
After De Ketelaere’s assist, Lookman displayed his clinical finishing in the 29th minute by tapping in from close range and blasting the ball into the near bottom corner.
He added a second late in the first half to seal a brace and was substituted in the 56th minute.
Alex Iwobi scores for Fulham
Iwobi scored his 24th Premier League goal in a 1-1 draw with his old team, Everton.
The midfielder converted a ball from a former teammate at Arsenal Emile Smith Rowe in the 61st minute for his second goal of the season.
Calvin Bassey, a fellow countryman, also played the entire ninety minutes, further adjusting to English football after moving from Ajax in the summer.
Victor Boniface scores for Bayer Leverkusen
After a recent vehicle accident, Boniface triumphantly returned to play by scoring his sixth Bundesliga goal of the season for Bayer Leverkusen in their 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen.
After a goalless first half, the striker’s goal in the 30th minute gave Xabi Alonso’s team the lead.
Boniface was substituted in the 70th minute as Bayer Leverkusen dropped points again.
