Reigning African Footballer of the Year Ademola Lookman received a cake from his teammates in celebration of his accolade.
Ademola Lookman dethroned Victor Osimhen as the new African best in an award ceremony held in Morocco in December.
Victor Osimhen alongside captain of the team William Troost-Ekong presented the cake to Lookman at the team hotel on Monday night.
Ademola Lookman thanked the team for their support and encouragement before cutting the cake as his teammates cheered on.
Lookman has been immense for the Super Eagles over the last two years for the national team.
The 27-year-old had a brilliant performance at the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire where scored three goals.
He provided the assist to Osimhen’s first goal as the Super Eagles beat Rwanda 2-0 in Kigali on Friday.
Lookman will look to continue his good run of form when he Super Eagles host Zimbabwe today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
A win for Nigeria will mark a successful March window of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series and further increase the chances of the team qualifying for the World Cup.
