Athletes especially footballers tend to take the spiritual aspect of their lives to a new height after retiring or when they are close to.
Former Liverpool striker, Roberto Firmino is now a Pastor in a local church in Brazil although he’s yet to hang his boots.
However, Swiss defender Silvan Wallner aged 22, has decided to quit football in order to observe the official biblical day of rest which is Saturday.
Silvan Wallner said he’s a devout Christian and longer wants to play professionally on Saturdays.
“I am a devout Christian and I read the Bible. I make my own decisions about my life.”
“I wish to follow Jesus Christ, and as a result, the biblical day of rest has become important to me.”
“As a footballer this means that I no longer want to play professionally on Saturdays.”
“This is my personal conviction, which I have reached in the last few days. I am not yet a member of any church.”
“I say a big thank you to all the people who have accompanied and supported me in my sporting career.”
Silvan Wallner played for BW Linz in the Austrian Bundesliga and featured 9 times this season across all competitions before hanging his boots.
