Nathan Tella and Victor Boniface featured for Bayer Leverkusen in the goalless draw away at Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon.
The duo made the starting XI as the defending champions cane into the match off the back of the DFB-POKAL comeback win over Koln on Tuesday.
However, Xabi Alonso’s men narrowly survived a heavy defeat to the home side with Lukas Hradecky made a number of saves in a stellar performance.
Bayer Leverkusen were largely underwhelming in as they had just one shot on target while Wolfsburg had eight.
It was quite a frustrating afternoon for Boniface as he got booked for a rash tackle before he was substituted for Patrik Schick in the 75th minute.
Nathan Tella also came off after a poor outing a minute later for former Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendia.
The match ended goalless as Bayer Leverkusen’s chances of retaining their title continues to fade.
Bayer Munich currently lead the Bundesliga table with 54 points after 21 matches. The defending champions are second with 46.
