Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has slammed Arsenal for failing to make two signings in the January window. Yorke believes the Gunners could have had a strong chance to fight Liverpool till the end.
Mikel Arteta failed to strengthen in the winter window and saw his depleted squad struggle to keep up with Arne Slot’s Liverpool, ultimately falling 13 points behind in the title race.
Speaking to Casino Bets, Yorke blamed the lack of signings for Arsenal’s decline.
“I think it was clear to everybody who was watching that Arsenal needed to energise their team with a big-name signing to get them over the line.
“In January, February, March, it’s when the season is really testing, and you need to be at full pelt to get through those phases,” he said.
“When you look at what happened in the transfer window, that has been so disappointing for them that even the players got deflated.
“It shows in their performances. I looked at Benjamin Sesko, and he’s a good player as well.
“I think he and Alexander Isak are the two players that I would have tried to sign to give you some kind of momentum.”
