Thiago Alcantara has officially arrived as a Liverpool player and he is promising to add to almost every aspect of the Reds midfield under Jurgen Klopp.
The 29-year-old has signed a four-year deal for an initial £20m fee, which could rise to £25m based on appearances and success as an individual and a team.
There has been much speculation over how the Spain international will fit into the Reds midfield, which has been fairly set with a regular three of Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho.
Arriving from Bayern Munich for his first foray into the Premier League, Thiago knows his new home will take some getting used to, but is confident he can bring a range of qualities to the middle of the park at Anfield.
‘I must adapt to the team as fast as I can in the situation and the context that we are living right now,’ he told Liverpool’s official website.
‘Everything is more compact and we started a little bit later, but still it is football and I think we have to mix all the big things up, all the good things we have. I will help the team in a defensive and offensive [way] and also in a mental aspect.
‘[The fans] are not more excited than I am, for sure not! It is not about saying words, it is about doing the things. I will give my heart on the field to my teammates, the club and also to the fans.’
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that Thiago chose to join the Reds as much as they decided to sign him and the midfielder is a huge admirer of the team he is joining.
‘He just was ready for a new challenge and he decided for us,’ said the German. ‘And that’s a compliment actually because he knows the Premier League is tough but he wants to come to the Premier League; he knows we have a good team but he wants to come to this team.
‘We played against him when we played Munich in the Champions League two years ago, so he knows what kind of machine we can be and he wanted to be part of that. It is about the club, it’s about the team, that he wanted to join us. That’s really cool.’
