There is a high profile clash in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night as Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham host Frank Lampard’s Chelsea for a place in the quarter-finals.

Both teams have had mixed starts to their Premier League campaigns, with both picking up four points from their first three games.

What might be considered a reasonably even match in other circumstances, Spurs have such a busy early-season schedule that they are playing again just two days later in the Europa League and the odds reflect the face that Mourinho will likely rest the majority of the first team squad.

Despite a multiple changes coming for Spurs, Mourinho outcast Dele Alli is not expected to be included.

Tottenham vs Chelsea team news

Tottenham are without Gareth Bale and Heung-min Son through injury, but plenty more first team players will also miss out due to their punishing schedule.

Jose Mourinho has already made it clear that he will be focussing on their Europa League qualifier on Thursday night, so will not be able to risk players in this game.

‘I would like to fight for the Carabao but I don’t think I can,’ he said. ‘The group phase of the Europa League gives us a certain amount of money that for a club like us is very important.

‘I think you can imagine that with a game on Thursday that decides a very important thing for us, I think the EFL made a decision for us,” he said.

‘They didn’t even create a problem – they made a decision for us. So that’s the decision.’

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will also rest players, but will likely field a much stronger team than Mourinho.

Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech remain out through injury.
