Troost-Ekong shortlisted for best defender in FIFA The Best Awards

William Troost-Ekong Ekong has been shorlisted in best defender category of the Best FIFA Men’s 11 category of the awards.

The Super Eagles captain is among a list of 22 defenders from which fans would be able to pick from while voting for their favorite players in different positions.

Troost-Ekong had an fantastic individual performance in the year under review for his former club side PAOK and the Super Eagles.

The 30-year-old central defender led the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.

En route to the final against Cote D’Ivoire, Troost-Ekong scored 2 goals and 1 in the 2-1 loss to the host in the final.

Consequently, Troost-Ekong was named the Most Valuable Player of the competition and also eqalled the record of the highest scoring defender in a single AFCON competition.

He also holds the record of the highest scoring defender in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations with 5 goals.

Williams Troost-Ekong was also pivotal as PAOK won their 4th Greek League title.
