The Super Eagles have rallied around star forward Ademola Lookman after his public spat with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Lookman faced criticism from Gasperini following Atalanta’s Champions League exit against Club Brugge.
In a show of solidarity, the Super Eagles took to social media to express their support for Lookman.
“We are with you Ade,” the team posted on X, accompanied by a picture highlighting Lookman’s impressive statistics for the club.
Lookman had earlier released a statement addressing Gasperini’s comments, expressing his hurt and feelings of disrespect.
“It saddens me on a day like this to have to write a statement like this – most of all because of what we have achieved as a team and as a city.
“Being singled out in the manner I have been, not only hurt but feels deeply disrespectful…During the match, the designated penalty taker instructed me to take the penalty, and to support the team I took the responsibility in the moment to do so.”
The Super Eagles’ support for Lookman has been echoed by numerous Nigerian fans, who have taken to social media to praise his contributions to the club.
