Ashley Cole revealed that new Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell reached out to him for a private chat after he had moved to Stamford Bridge.
Cole is viewed as one of the best full-backs to grace the Premier League and won three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups, the League Cup, Europa League and Champions League during his spells with Arsenal and Chelsea.
Now working as a coach with Chelsea, Cole is a known admirer of Chilwell, who joined from Leicester for £50million this summer as part of a huge spending spree at Stamford Bridge.
Signing a left-back was always known to be a priority for Blues boss Frank Lampard – who played with Cole for Chelsea and England – and Cole publicly backed him to sign Chilwell as early as December last year.
Fresh from completing the transfer, Chilwell reached out to Cole for ‘advice’ as he sought an insight into how life at Stamford Bridge would be.
Cole told the Daily Mail: ‘He sent me a message: “Can you come round for a chat?”
‘Fine with me. “What’s life like at Chelsea? What are my expectations of him?”
‘I tried to give him an insight into the club, how he could improve the team, and what he needs to work on.
‘I liked that he asked for that advice.’
Meanwhile, another Chelsea full-back has been sent out on loan.
Italy international Davide Zappacosta will spend the 2020/21 season playing in Serie A with Genoa.
