Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea - Carabao Cup Fourth Round

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho was angry with Frank Lampard’s presence in his technical area directly after Chelsea opened the scoring against his side in the Carabao Cup.

Timo Werner gave Chelsea the lead midway through the first half when he capitalised on two poor pieces of play from Sergio Reguilon to put his side ahead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Chelsea have endured a mixed start to the season and their 3-3 draw at West Brom on Saturday perfectly summarised that as the Blues rallied from three goals down to earn a draw after a disastrous opening 45 minutes.

Lampard was understandably furious at his side’s first half display at the Hawthorns and Mourinho appeared to allude to the 42-year-old’s tendency to ‘sing while he’s winning’ during matches as the pair exchanged words on the touchline.

The pair were seen arguing around the half-hour mark with Mourinho telling the fourth official that Lampard was continually leaving his technical area.

According to the Telegraph, Mourinho yelled: ‘F*****g hell Frank, when you’re losing 3-0 you’re not standing up here.’

The comment is a clear reference to Chelsea’s last game, where they were 3-0 behind at half-time against West Brom.

Mourinho has had numerous touchline run-ins over the years and he was similarly displeased with Antonio Conte during Manchester United’s 4-0 defeat against the Blues at Stamford Bridge in 2016.

The Portuguese coach spoke to Conte at final whistle and accused him of trying to ‘humiliate’ him with his exuberant performance on the touchline.
