Arsenal’s new boy, Viktor Gyokeres, has revealed the reasons behind his decision to join Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.
The 27-year-old Swedish international, who will don the No. 14 shirt at the Emirates next season, chose Arsenal despite interest from other clubs, including Manchester United, where he could have reunited with his former Sporting CP manager, Ruben Amorim.

In an interview following his move, Gyokeres expressed his conviction that Arsenal was the perfect fit for his career ambitions.
“I just felt that it was the right club for me. What I heard from Mikel and Andrea when I was speaking with them, and just what I’ve seen in the past years, how they’ve been playing football,” he said.
“When I was playing against Arsenal last season, I could really feel it was a very strong team and very difficult to play against. That made me choose Arsenal.”
Gyokeres’ decision comes after a prolific spell at Sporting CP, where he scored an impressive 43 goals and provided 15 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions during the 2024-25 season.
His performances made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, and Arsenal have now addressed a problem area ahead of the 2025-26 season.
